Mentions Lady Hardwicke is fitting out her dairy, with old china, which has caused her look out some of her own china. Lady Elliot is still suffering from rheumatism. Discusses the situation in Spain, and mentions the battle of Vimeiro. Also mentions attacks upon Sir Hew Dalrymple, [Governor of Gibraltar 1806-8], mainly from friends of Sir Thomas Trigge, and attacks upon Lord Wellesley’s brother, Arthur Wellesley [later the Duke of Wellington], in the newspapers. Both were involved in the signing of the convention of Cintra with Spain, which she says comprised of the same terms agreed in the treaties signed at Cairo and Alexandria, and Malta. Mentions Sir John Moore should have moved his troops from Lisbon 3 or 4 weeks sooner than he did. Wishes that Spanish America was separated from England, which would provide a country to trade with if Europe is closed.
