Clevedon Nursery, Ampthill

Clevedon was a residential nursery for young children taken into care by the local authority. The minutes of the Clevedon Nursery Management Sub-Committee ( CH/Sub 3/4 ) start in Feb 1949 and continue till Mar 1964, when Clevedon became part of the Southern Children’s Homes Management Sub-Committee ( CH/Sub 3/9 ) up to Feb 1970. The children were transferred to a smaller building in 1965 and in July 1970 there was accommodation for 12 children up to the age of 7.
In 1974 Clevedon Nursery came under the new Social Services Department. The case papers received cover the period 1975 - 1981. The unit became Clevedon Community Resource in 1992, catering for an older age group.
