Concern that the British subjects of Chile and Peru are prohibited from practising their religion, and “they pass their Sundays in every way but the right; and it enables the bigotted and licentious clergy to hold them up to their own deluded flocks as infidels.” He comments that Lima is “the most depraved and licentious city in the world.” He is travelling from Coquimbo to Valparaiso.
