- Scope and ContentLeaving Stanmer Tuesday, brief visit to Spanish Embassador in Town, then on to Saltram. Dined with Mr. Frankland at Muntham. Tom [Pelham] confined at Lewes, dines at Stanmer occasionally. Duke of Richmond at Brighthelmstone with half the men they have raised. Sir Harry Fetherston got leave from him to dine yesterday, he doesn't much admire his business etc... Last Ball at Brighton had no more than five couples including the four Lady Ashburnhams. Duke of Argylle benefiting from bathing. Mr. Wyndham no better, saw his younger brother for a minute but could bear it no longer. Latter dined on way to Petworth, on a recruiting party to Chichester. Harry [Pelham] going on more slowly than at first, Militia interfering with his business. Mr. Courtail visiting. Dean of Chichester (Charles Harward) lost his cause in Westminster Hall. Lord Pelham no nearer succeeding than he was. Mr. Offley going soon. Exeter Races, assume no mention means Mr. Parker not successful. Lord Pelham says he will not go to Lewes but Tom will not let him off. Young ladies busy finishing their caps and trimmings. Fanny looking better. PS Hearing regularly from Grantham.
