  • Scope and Content
Thanks for letter on his birthday, 11 October. Draper forgot. Allusion to Mr. Parker's election being over, implies missing letter. Also, Mr. Parker's riding a long tailed horse at Exeter without his hat on. Their own horses sent to Madrid due to heat. Clermonts arrived. M. L'Elu with them. Latter drew Fritz and Grantham at Aranjuez. Duque de Losada's table "a compleat mammock". Discusses eating habits generally. Takes a Spanish renfresco, i.e. dish of chocolate and glass of water at 7 p.m., instead of supper. Gala last Saturday. Princess of Asturia's pregnancy, expected to lie in in March, hence Aranjuez early. Sorry for this as country houses not good in cold weather. Mr. Blosset succeeds Clermont at Lisbon. Visiting in Spring. Nanny may have seen him in England in Guerchy's time. Nephew's speech progressing. Waddilove will be a good judge. Latter's departure not yet decided.
