Off to the Escurial tomorrow via new road. Parkers to be absent from Saltram a great while. Therese wrote from Bath, glad she has made peace with the Thornhills. Expect she was sorry to have missed Sir Joshua [Reynolds] at Plymton. Have heard nothing of ship. Supposes the Carlisles and George Selwin are happy at birth of Lord Morpeth. Charles & Richard "must tremble at this plentifull harvest of boys...this season". Madame Zenofieff/Zenowieff [sic], the Russian Minister's wife, is not going to Escurial. The Nuncio has gone to Paris, sent compliments to theVirys, perhaps she & Mr. Harris will meet there "they love one another as the devil loves holy water". D'ageste, Fritz's Valet de Chambre, otherwise the Biscayen, or Mr. Aston's man (he was at Saltram once) has visited his relations and brought back some Ortolans [ species of Bunting -OED] from Bayonne which were exquisite. Nephew making little progress with talking. Mrs. Aislabie at Scarborough, poor state of health, didn't leave her room whilst at Studley.
