    Spent a week at Bourdeaux/Bordeaux. Civilities from the Archbishop who is Prince of Rohan and brother to Madame Masserano. Went up river, swam every morning. Describes women of the area. "More like Therese than Lady Almeria Carpenter". Travelled about three ports from Bourdeaux by water. Describes terrain upon landing ; Black sand, briars, fir forests, shepherds tending sheep using stilts to avoid briars. Stopped at La Harie, set out again at 5 pm. Greatest part of road through fir forests from which Turpentine obtained. Mentions a great fire about 14 years previously, Shadwell & Waddilove actually passed through a more localised one. Description of Bayonne, Biscayen women, the dress is precisely Patmos, heads Wattau etc.. Dageste at home there, Frederick judges him "a treasure". Setting off by mule for Pampluna on Monday. Ride during cool of day. Love to all at Stanmer if letter arrives there.
