  • Scope and Content
Sorry about Grantham's latest attack. Walked to Fountain's [Abbey], country in great beauty. Mr. Robinson [prospective new Town Clerk] is said to have Mr. L's and Sir Bellingham Graham Interest with Mrs. Allanson. Next contest, successor to Mr. Lunn, when he makes a vacancy. Mr. Martin likely to succeed to the ArchBishop's Stewardship as he is patronized by the Great Mortimer. Hutchinson "is got down again", but Ayrton expects to be BM, attends his brother who is to be D____[?] the next Cambridge Commencement. Would like to have seen Sancha. Supposes Lord Chesterfield's return was only a newspaper article. Bring book from Mr. Martin's of Lombard Street if sent. Thanks for paying Draper. Mr. Norton buried yesterday at Sawley. Waddilove obliged to Robinson for mention of School Trusteeship to Mr. Duncombe, if Weddell and Sir Bellingham Graham are in agreement it will be easily settled. Wishes to "impress the Idea of Succession to this Deanery, that it should be look'd upon as a thing of Course". Archbishop will do all he can, will give Waddilove the Hospitals anyway but suspects a local Peer will do everything to keep him out of the Deanery, fears his activity, thinks he has seen his Designs in his own hands, more of this when he and Frederick Robinson meet etc. Sir James Grant not likely to petition, managed matters badly, had the MacDonalds and Maccleods/Macleod, but the Frazers joining the Gordons the morning of the Election turned it against him. His son went through Ripon yesterday to keep Term at Lincoln's Inn. Wishes them a good journey to Yorkshire.
