  • Scope and Content
Mrs. Allanson sent £25 for the poor, the Mayor has been soliciting for subscriptions, would have allotted five guineas on Robinson's behalf [giving Topcliffe less) had this been done sooner. Used his own discretion as Robinson's intentions were known but nothing had been done etc.... Waddilove not called upon as he has told Bell he had his own plan and given all he can for now. Can't do more on Frederick Robinson's behalf without fresh directions. Told beggars in the street "that if I gave anything myself it would be only a Gn, supposing the hard Weather to continue and Mrs. Allanson's Benefaction nearly exhausted". Will give same answer elsewhere as private families have done much for the poor; Mrs. Backet kind, Mr. Allanson distributed corn, Mrs. Rhodes and Dr. Kilvington gave coals. Alderman Coates and Mrs. Lunn very attentive. All have confined themselves to the poor in their own neighbourhood. Waddilove has taken in the whole Town [Ripon] and given coals to 128 families £3. 8. 0 bread to about 100 10. 6 clergyman's widow at Sawley 10. 6 Topcliffe £2. 2. 0 Engaged there £1. 1. 0 Continues giving 6d. Loaves for 3d. Has given James Dresser the Miller directions for disposing of 4 Gns. Of Lord Grantham's charity at Topcliffe etc.... Kit Smith added to the bill of Mortality there. Another great fall of snow yesterday. Mrs. Waddilove stronger but not downstairs yet. P.S. Served every person in a List which Beckwirth gave him.
