    Resting his legs until feeling stronger. Went to Lord Aylesford's yesterday after calling at St. James' Square. Aylesford’s head full of D'An___eville's Book now out. Swinburne made Grantham subscribe, has sent for a copy. Attended Committee of Council; business of Ireland. Mr. Pitt, Lords Sydney, Howe, Dundas, Walsingham, Jenkinson etc..., the Clerks, Elliott Attorney General. Wanted to speak to Pitt, Howe and Dundas but latter two slipped away. Pitt and Pepper sorry to hear of Fritz's confinement. Explained Fritz couldn't come up [to Town] before Candlemas Day, that his Mayoralty gave him breathing time but he would hear from [him?] at the expiration of it. Pitt hoped they gave him credit for his good intentions and were satisfied with what had happened. Grantham expected nothing more specific. Pepper "in high bloom....que ce n'est pas de Poivre con cassé". Grantham's feelings about the Committee and the round of social engagements it may involve. Dining with Jenkinson on Saturday. Lady Sydney says Lady Chatham now able to walk across the room and is in high spirits. Mr. Wilmot calling Monday. Has moved Office to Lincoln's Inn. Bill for four years dealing with Sir Norton's accounts amounts to £73. Received Fritz's letter, the most satisfactory since his confinement, general advice to aid full recovery. Reference to "Madame Hope" holding "Light". Their Aunt tried on her Birthday Gown today and was very frisky. T. [Thomas] Smith wrote sending bills he has paid. Lady Grantham has had a cold. The Yorkes etc... dine on Sunday as the Dutch go home. Woodford appointed Commissary for Spanish Trade. Compliments to Waddilove and Co.
