Waddilove coming to dinner. Will make him ferret out both Volumes of Beattie, which he doubtless has. Hope he had good weather at Stanmer. Doesn't like sound of his life in London. Arrival in Yorkshire likely to be delayed by longer Attendance [House of Commons]. Longing to see him etc... Enquired of Mr. Ellis the particulars of the Estate subject to the fine recently raised by the Archbishop. Boys improve much. Fred a little more manageable, brother becoming a little jealous. Fritz and Nanny made right decision about Vicuna. Supposed "Pitt had done himself a great honour by the fairness and detail as well as conception of his Propositions". Not depending upon Tom Pelham's coming. Jem Worsley wrote asking when he and Ralph may come. Not until Tom or Campo have been. Jem and Ralph leave Grantham for good, going to Mrs. Stanyforth's at Fribeck [Firbeck?], no home to go to after that. Fritz will mull over the possibility of Jem's being forwarded in the Army. Thanks for Cheeses. Comparison of sheds with Oberea's Wigwam, looking at them from Venetian Window etc... Waddiloves dined. Newby never looked so well. Describes it. Visiting Madame Blacket tomorrow in Phaeton and four. Will reserve dining there until Fritz arrives. Daily routine at Newby. Lady Grantham, Lady Bell and Tod mentioned. Update on work. Redgrave making a little Cupola for vestibule to south apartment. Belwood mentioned. Visiting the Grahams next week. Surprized at hearing nothing from the Thompsons. Sir J. Ingoldby expected, employing Belwood and Mickle, wants to see Newby. Mr. Caley, Residentiary of York's, death. The Dean disposes of the State. Waddilove writes to recommend himself. Mr. Ellis wrote to Grantham to apply to the Archbishop for one of the Livings, for the present Curate of Strensall. Grantham to decline "meddling". Archbishop known to be rangé in the disposal of preferment in his Gift. Supposes Tom [Pelham] angry at the result of the Bedfordshire Election. Ladies much pleased, believes Lady Grey earnest about it. Delapierre and the four horses in the Phaeton. T. Smith quite a convert to Micke, 'converted' by the Garden and foot path to Topcliffe. Love to his Aunt, will write as soon as Fritz has left, Love from Lady Grantham etc....
