    Christening last night. Queen looked very well. Grantham very gracious when he went to her bedside to be spoken to. Lady Courtown, not Lady Stopford told him that Miss Mary was very ill at Esher and unable to see Lady Sydney. Lady Pembroke goes shortly to Nice with her daughter. Has been at Stanmer recently. Duke of Portland asked about Mr. Archdiken [?], told him all he knew in hopes he will be relieved. The Clarendons came to Town. Lady Jersey going to Paris. The Duchess of Devonshire has received a present of lace etc...from the Dauphin, probably in return for a boy's dress a L'Angloise she sent. Princess of Aturias has produced twin Princes; Don Carlos and Don Felipe. The King of Spain could not take his eyes off them. Campo's response to the news etc.. Lady Bell and Lady Yorke were at Court and came to Lady Grantham's afterwards. The Irish have taken three Companies from Sir Joseph's Regiment, reduces it one third, income affected proportionately. Eden and Mrs. Eden, being Rich Honourable were at the Christening. The Archbishop and Mrs. Moore said they caught Fritz at billiards with Mrs. Hutchinson! "Did you pocket your balls? The Archbishop was in a fright". Letters from Nany, Liston and Losada [no details]. Mr. Yorke fitting up his house in Town, expecting remainder of his Virtu daily. Employing "Cummires" to clean his pictures. Wants a Butler and Bailiff etc. Visiting Lady Yorke tonight, John and James will think her formal, she is not, but well behaved. Drawing Room next week at which she is presented to the Queen. Lady Grey also going. Awaiting news of Fritz's coming homewards. Waddilove's Thomas did not collect the books to bring. P.S. Lady Lindsay has told their Aunt that Sir John Lindsay would take Richard [Worsley]. Lots of uncertainties make a decision difficult, Grantham would prefer he went with John Jervis; more likely to promote Richard afterwards. Seeing their Aunt tomorrow morning.
