- Scope and ContentSending via Mr Savory, some impressions of Tom [Pelham’s] head in the box with Sir Thos. Morley. Hopes the defects on the lid and inside were already there. Impression of the Urn on paper also sent. Feelings on their now year long separation etc.. [9 May 1779]. Response to Fritz’s latest letters. The man delivered them personally, gave a good account of having seen Fritz. The etching is in a book of Waddilove’s coming with Savory. Letter enclosed for Emsley from widow of Corradi to be left at his shop. Portugal indiscreetly complained of a headache at the Prince’s table today. The Martina places confidence in Grantham. Pleased at the account of Lord S’s speech, his Doctrine useful to all parties. Will make the most of it there; Lord L. will be a troublesome man if he grows hungry. Send a Catalogue with notes of the Exhibition. Also some good impressions of the King by Sir J.R. [Reynolds]. Sorry Nanny hasn’t received his Thursday letters recently. He hasn’t missed one. Dined at Lozada’s, a warring[?] Dinner. The Arcos and Valdecazana gave place. Assurance of his well being. No want of care with new complaints. Easily alarmed. Thought swelling of knee recently, caused by tight shoes, Fabre not very concerned. Gone down now. Has a “flaming” hat, afraid to wear it, however, Kaunitz promises to imitate and so will little baron. Delapierre has received two pairs of buckles. Fritz’s first pair the handsomest. Longs to hear Fritz has seen Lord Chatham and Conway. Thanks for account from Sackville Street. The Porter in Town has asked for Consent to marry a third wife, widow of two husbands. Gave it. Perico is leaving for a place in the King’s Stables, for life. His cousin succeeds him. May part with Tordo [the horse] after this Sitio. Mr Savory thought to be in England about 4 June, delivering things personally. Love to Nanny, Parkers, Pelhams. Monday 10 [May 1779].
