  • Scope and Content
Going to the Escurial tomorrow. Most of symptoms [of gravel] gone, eating well but little. Battue on Thursday on account of the Queen of Portugal. May go if he feels well enough. Prince and Princess Masserano made a surprize visit on Friday night, interrupted his playing [music] with Canales. They dined next day with Pozzi, Munro and Fabré. Masserano is called to the Escurial to be in waiting in the room of Belgida, who is ill. Valdecarzano succeeds Guevara. Duque of Braganza arrived. He is Portugal's Seigneur, grant Parleur and Commisseur. Dining with Grantham soon. Mr. Turnbull and a Mr. Mackeller are there. Settled at Gibralter. Came through France but couldn't bring a Portfeuille of Prints for him from St. Saphorin. Plain Souci Striped Velvet coat to be made up plain in lieu of the one Masin did not send from Lyons. The Nuncio prefers Grantham's Desert to his own, the yellow Urn is twice as big. Little Haslemere came to take leave, gave him a silver pen and pencil. Longing to get back to full correspondence with Fritz and to write more fully than of late to the Office. Love to the Parkers.
