  • Scope and Content
Confirmation of his Recovery. Walked on the Altos, called on Gazola who was studying a Map of Italy. Received Fritz's no.54, sad at the thought of the time lapse before Fritz received news of Grantham's recovery. Remembers Sir Christopher Treise, sat in Parliament with him, he was formerly Member of Cornwall. Fritz leads "a fine rambling life which I could not stand above a fortnight". Has experienced more solitude in the last month or so than ever in his leg [Grantham]. No loss in Roger Gee, one of those Esquires when Grantham could never have brought himself to live with. Believes Portugal bought the Inkstand. The Fashion came to seven Reals an Ounce, next to nothing considering the work. [Whole price not stated]. Approves his hints about the Gateway [nothing specific]. Total want of anything interesting to write. Daily routine. General thoughts. 21 October [1778]. Appearance of Redilections[?] for the dear little Girl [niece Parker] “who I suppose is quiet, shy and coaxing. I wish you had a wife with the same Qualities”. Draper's arrangements for sending the Watch, Steel necklace and bracelet, Strings of Steel beads for Packeco[?]. Venice called. Mosserano calls often, doesn't know what to do with himself. Guevarn succeeds St. Estevan, believes Valdecarzano succeeds Guevara. Infantago is returned, missed Madame Bejar who went to meet him at his own house at Lerma, she has gone on to be disciplined at Burgos. Madame Villahermosa has not seen the inside of a Church at Paris. Masin sent Compliments by his Secretary. He did not go via Lyons so Grantham's commission for Velvet is over. Monsieur Salé will produce his last required suit. Wrote more fully than congratulations to Lady Parker. Lady Holland; Fritz's fears well grounded. What Lady Thanet is dead? Doesn't remember a Daughter. Usual annual directions to Draper about their Tickets [Lottery?]. 23 Oct 1778.
