Masin refused to take it himself out of pique, as he couldn't get it at the Regimental price. Worth 1000 dollars i.e. 15,000 Rls. Munro advises getting the Duke of Arcos to find out if the Major wishes to sell. Note added that an enclosure [not present] was missed out of another letter. 6 September [1778]. Set out [to St. Ildefonso] at 4.30, arrived in eight hours with the post, serviceable when not tired. Found Frederick's no.44, and it's assurance that Campe life agreed with him. Reference to Frederick’s Sight [of the Fleet] at Plymouth and Grantham's similar one at Portsmouth when he was younger. Project concerning Preston[?], not necessary as letter no.31 covered all possible situations etc... 'W' [Waddilove?] involved. Will express their awareness of and gratitude for, his situation on some Proper occasion. Horses; Manuel ready to take charge of the transport of Chico. The other horses may set out in a fortnight. Found the anecdote of Frederick's meeting with Mr. Justice Buller charming. Thinks the Bullers are related to Lord Apsley. Longing to start the Arch [place not stated]. Approves of Frederick and Nanny's plan to write by different routes. Delighted to have puzzled him about Madame Smissaert. Passed an evening at Madrid with Gazola. Supped with Madame Bejar, emphasises with her parting with her brother. Kaunitz collecting Grantham's Company for this evening, lest they think he hasn't returned.
