  • Scope and Content
Last packet by Morino's messenger. Continuing with his journal, assuming it is not yet a tiresome form of correspondence. Heard some goo d music at a Contrador's house where he'd been before with Fernanunez. Amongst the ladies singing was a 16 year old blind girl, the daughter of the house. Grantham touched by her performance and cheerfulness. Dined at Villahermosa's upon excellent mutton. Floridablanca, Losada, Embassador, Masserano's etc...there. Function at Portugal's this evening. Duque of Medina Sidonia is very low, saw a letter from him to Magallow. The King has been very attentive to him "a Cordial in this Country". The poor Duchess on knowing her Danger, was far from being resigned and wasted so much time that ceremonies thought indispensable could not be performed. The Albuquerque is very ill, in danger of falling into profound melancholy. Saw Madame Torrepatr____[?], looks well, had been to Court to give notice of niece's marriage; the Castromonte's daughter to the Marquis de la Puebla's son. Cashomonte's son is to marry Abronte's daughter. Brides etc...were presented to the King today. M. Fernanunez was late, the King was about to leave when Madame Bejar "with great frankness and most piteously said, Sire my sister is getting out of her Coach", the King waited. Godalso and Gayoso are both in Town etc... Villanueva has been there, showed Grantham his drawings, gave him one of the Escurial. Criticism of his technique. Theatres now open. Fuego de Dios en querer bien. No relish for the spectacle. Knows the Infantados have received his letter from Frederick, hope they've passed it on to him. Assurance of his well being. Cold gone, is persuaded it was caused by Sun.
