The King and Prince talk freely to him about his wounds and his escape. This letter going by a Messenger of Portugal. Room looks bare etc.. Corps [Diplomatique] dining at Villahermosa's on Monday. Portugal gives his Ball at night. Saw the latter's 'flame' close up, she is not pretty. He is jealous of her husband now, who being deprived of Mlle. Laborda is come home to his wife. Reference to joke; baths, "Vauxhall and what not to be instituted on the River.....by....Monsieur Puff...". Hope Frederick soon sharing the joke with Tom [Pelham]. 16 April [1778]. Longs to hear from him, will try to wait patiently. 17 April 1778. Brief account of day. Court, dined at Lozada's, returned to Palace, found Portugal, walked with Kaunitz. 8.30, 18 [April 1778]. Has been at Morino's office, this letter to go directly to England by Messenger, not via Portugal. Keeping busy, occupation the best thing. 2 o'clock, 18 [April 1778].
