- Scope and ContentComforted by assurance of Jack's full recovery. Arrived at Trehill on Monday last in five hours, staying till Monday, put off Mr. Payne at Saltram. Mr. Ley dined at the Star Cross Club on Wednesday to meet Lord Courtney. Went today to see a very pretty place of a Mr. Sweets near Lord Lisburnes, went just inside the Gate at Manhead which is very beautiful. Sent William to Mr. Montagu's at Whiteway with a civil message. He is at Teignmouth, propose visiting him there on way back to Saltram. Wanting to get home as it is nearly time to begin cutting down trees etc...... Lady Pelham wrote to decline her invitation to Lucy Pelham, didn't want to leave Lady Pelham. Anne had suggested Tom brought Lucy on when he took Emily to Bath. George has never mentioned De La Pierre. Lady Grantham wrote that little boys are alright. Received Mrs. Robinson's letter enclosing Mrs. Weddell's pattern. G.[George] Hardinge, Anne's friend, wrote to ask for one of Prince's puppies if he had any. He forgot to wish her joy on Lord Malmesbury's account. He called Frederick a brute because he wasn't at Saltram to do the honours of the Country to him. Lady Dinevor is at Teignmouth with all her family. Miss Rice is to marry Mr. Dorriens[?] a handsome, rich friend of her brothers.
