  • Scope and Content
Refers to family and social news. Grantham and his wife have arrived in town; Mr Conway has been prevented from travelling due to business, however he intends setting out next Thursday. Mentions she has received a letter from the Dutchess [sic] of Devonshire, who has seen the little boy at Hammersmith, and sent the little girl a pair of bracelets. Asks after Lady Pelham, and if Frederick and Grantham wish to continue their custom of sharing a ticket in the lottery; they should buy the ticket as there is nobody with her at the moment except Captain Jervis. Sir John Ramsden is Quartered in Plympton, and eats at Saltram each day. Also mentions Lord Berkley dined with them yesterday, and that the Betts are opposed to his marrying Miss Ourry/Curry; they dine at General Grey’s tomorrow; and on Thursday they are going to Port Eliot. Mr Parker plans to create a large plantation at the entrance to the new road he recently completed. Ends the letter saying they (Mr Parker, herself, Captain Jervis, Sir John Ramsden) cannot decide on a game to play, including cribbage, commerce, whist and 21.
