  • Scope and Content
The Duke and Duchess have left at last. Believes the House at Plympton is likewise going on account of Lord Richard Cavendish's death. The Duke (5th Duke of Devonshire) and Lord George were very upset. News came by common post from a Banker at Naples. The Duke had "an hysteric fit" upon opening it. The Duchess wrote asking that Mr. Parker or Anne would break it to Lord George who was there. Being nearer the title now may be of use to him with respect to Lady betty. Plympton House is very damp. Duchess not well, tried to persuade her to return to Town but the Duke can't yet bear the thought to seeing anyone. Little Boy well. Plans for Christmas. Lady Pelham still short of breath. Has had the Thrush but recovered. The Major is out of danger after four relapses. Talk of Camps breaking up. Nothing known of Fleet. Lord Shuldam dined today with Captain Byron, son to the Admiral. Married with a daughter, combined ages make 39. Birthday wishes for the 11th. Glad Lady Grantham continues well. N.B. Lord Northington expected tomorrow and Mr. and Mrs. Musters.
