- Scope and ContentThe Mayor has received a Precept to elect two new Representatives in Parliament for Ripon Borough. Day of Election to be advised. Mr. Lawrence cannot attend. Independent Freeholders; large majority at the County Meeting at York last Thursday for addressing the King vide the enclosed [not present] this against the Duke of Devonshire, Lord Fitz William, Lord John Cavendish, Lord Surrey and the Earl of Carlisle etc...and their tenants_____Lord Percy, Lord Effingham and Lord Falconburgh for the Address. Assurance of Ripon Borough's support. North and Fox much despised in Yorkshire. Lord John Cavendish wanted to justify his conduct but the people wouldn't hear him. Atkinson clear they were three to one for the address notwithstanding account in the York Chronicle respecting the Sheriff’s doubts etc... Lord Grantley not there, papers said he was.
