- Scope and ContentApology for length of time since writing. Received a letter from Mr. Andrewes on his return from the seaside to Leicester. Journey to Saltram postponed as his mother is ill. Finished Horace's de arte Poetica. Intends doing a little Greek everyday until Andrewes arrives. A Serjeant has agreed to come every morning to teach him exercise etc... Visited Mount Edgecumbe with Mr. Edgecumbe. Unable to go and see a grand procession of Free-Masons with Lord Mt. Edgecumbe at Stone-House, by rain. First stone of a new Chapel there to be laid by Lord Mt. Edgecumbe. Hay generally saved. Harvest begun. Continual rain. Papers report terrible thunder storms around London on Thursday. Grand Ball in honour of Prince William's birthday tomorrow at the long Room. Invited by Commissioner. The Bastards dined last week. Aunt Nanny allowed him to drive her in the Phaeton with the new horses to Mr. Heywood's at Maristow[?]. Rides every day. Hopes they will never again remark on his ignorance of the Country. Rode to Puncham belonging to Mr. Strode, pretty park and grounds, bad uninhabited house. Near Moors not far from Colebrook and Boringdon. Derived much pleasure from the description of Robinson's Tour.
