Glad at departure of horses, Papa gave Sprat away to Mr. Ley's little boy last year which he regrets though. Hard frost and snow. Plym not quite frozen over. Returns from Mr. Bastard's at Kitley this morning. Lottery ticket between he and Therese no. 27m 118, prize of £20. Granthams set out for London. Hope Robinson received Therese's letter. Aunt Nanny thinks her new Madmoiselle will answer well. Reads French for an hour every day with Therese [Boringdon]. Sir John? Chichester's death last Saturday. Present Sir John gone to Bath, not well. Papa's visits to North Devon delayed by Sir J. Hort arriving from Lisbon any day. Made baloon of between five and six feel high and fifteen in circumference. Failed initially then got it up and it went to bottom of the Lawn, fell when flame burnt a hole.
