Alderman Gregson has promised friendship also a recommendation will be coming from a leading Gentleman who has the power to do so [not named]. Thanks Robinson for his declarations and good wishes. 20 August 1782 From William Crosbie, Liverpool to William Horner [enclosure]: Have been waiting to see if the Mayor would sign the recommendation to Lord Shelburne in Horner's favour. Not in the Mayor's power to do so at present having no correspondence with his Lordship, will do it with pleasure when he can do it with propriety.
