Lord Grantham thought not fond of latter. Seminary at Greenford. Glasse's father [Samuel] wishes to withdraw to a position of superintending their establishment, his former position to be taken by Reverend Mr. Hooker formerly of Ovid College, Oxford. Hooker is a married Clergyman of about 30 years old. Travelled with a pupil of theirs, Mr. Atherton who dies at Hieres [South France] of a consumption. Favourite character of Hooker from Duke of Dorset, Lord Grey de Wilton, Sir John Dyke, Captain Bentinick/Bentinck of the Nay. Returned to England, married and took pupils for about three years. Bringing some with him. Hooker taking Dr. Glasses house on New Year's Day, Dr. Glasse taking adjoining house. Mrs. Lacey [?] to assist Mrs. Hooker, Seminary to be about 16-20. Resident French master to be employed. Asks for F. Robinson's support of new seminary. Music, dancing, drawing and fencing optional subjects. Doesn't recommend music. Quarterly bill to rise from £29 to £30, washing, French, gratuities to servants etc. Included. Nineteen or twenty shillings per quarter needed for French master. Books and stationery extra.
