  • Scope and Content
Translation: Sir, Your Excellency Letters flattered me exceedingly, they reminded me of the trust of which I always hope to become worthy, and the title of friend with which Your Excellency honours me is [illegible], to all possible titles. I have seen Dn Bernado del Campo again with the greatest and most sincere satisfaction. He will reply to Your Excellency, and I will never fail the Recommendation with which he is furnished, neither in regard to his character nor the personal friendship which I promised to him a long time ago. My present situation although changed, can do nothing to alter the resolutions engraved on my heart, which will always incline me to hope to see the most perfect harmony between our two countries and towards which I would have worked unceasingly. In a situation such as I find myself, Your Excellency can make use of me and I await the arrival of M de Murquz to be with M del Campo, to renew my duty to Your Excellency M del Campo will be, I assure you, in a position to serve his fellow countrymen in this country. We already regard him as one of us, His knowledge of our country, and of our tongue and the satiafaction we have of seeing a Spanish Minister at this Court, assure your worthy friend of the most favourable welcome. All who come from Your Excellency can count on the same feelings, they are founded on respect and consideration.
