- Scope and ContentLetter from Thomas Wing at Dunstable to William Day at Saint Neots [Huntingdonshire]: “You will be surprised to hear that Mr Eagles objects to Mrs Evans signing a general release on receiving her £200 on the ground too that there may be other demands which Mrs Evans as an executrix ought not to give up”. “You will readily suppose that we have no wish she should give up anything to which she is entitled but the ordinary result of all References is a general Release if the party paying chuses to be at the expense of it – and in this case the Reference embraces all matters in difference as well as the particular Bill”. “We can have no objection to Mrs Evans taking all the time she wishes to ascertain if any further account is due to her late Husband so that it may be inquired into, but Mr Adam is not willing that the money should be paid without the general release and particularly as it was understood between you and myself both at Bedford and in London that we should have it & indeed you looked upon it as quite of course if we desired it, the expense being the only consideration”. “Mr Eagles will, I have no doubt, concede it if you write to him & I hope you will do so as it is really not the thing to make such an objection”. “I ought to have written to you sooner but I have been so engaged that I have not found time to do do before today. What have you done about the Hilton business? I must eject what can I do?”
