- Scope and ContentLetter to Thomas Wing from Eagles & Son at Ampthill: “Mrs Evans is ready to give such a receipt on payment of £200, the sum agreed upon in full of the disputed Debt which has been the subject of the Arbitration, as will preclude her from the possibility of substantiating any further Claim in respect of it. With regard to the General Discharge presented by Mr Bennett we really cannot advise Mrs Evans to execute it, as she is acting in a representative character. We are not aware that she has any demand on account of the Estate of her deceased husband against the Duke for work previous to the Bill in question and we presume the agents of His Grace are in possession of sufficient vouchers from Mr Evans given n settlement of previous bills with him to rebut any further claims in respect of them. We do hope under the circumstances you will not delay the payment by persisting in requiring a general Discharge and you may rest assured that we will not assist Mrs Evans in recovering a further demand (if any thing unexpected should arise) unless we consider her to be fairly and properly entitled – pray let us have from you speedily”.
