  • Scope and Content
Letter to Thomas Wing from Alexander Sharman: “I fear you will apprehend that you have in me a correspondent not more prompt than Mr Tween in answering your letter, but since the receipt of your letter of the 12th inst I have been in daily expectation of seeing Mr Tween & I have postponed writing to you that I might first have an interview with him – altho for some days expected in Shefford he has not yet arrived and yesterday I wrote to him asking him to reply to your letter. If he comes before Thursday I will arrange with him to meet him on that day as you propose”. “From the outline I have had of the case I imagine that the principal burden will rest on Mr Eagles. His client is the Claimant & of course it will be for him to substantiate the Claim. I apprehend that your witnesses will only be required to contradict or explain”. “I consider Mr Theed Pearse a very fit man in almost every respect for umpire. A more honourable or competent man is not in the profession. The appointment of umpire I suppose will be arranged by Mr Day & myself & I should like to talk this matter over with you before any individual is named by either party as there are points which require consideration even in reference to the gent named”. “I am not aware of any matters relative to the case which require your particular attention previous to the meeting. I shall have great pleasure in making the arrangements for you at the Swan and in waiting upon you on Thursday Evening.
