- Scope and ContentLetter from Thomas Bennett at Woburn to Thomas Wing: “I return you the Agreement of Reference. If Eagles particularly insists upon Meeting at the George it is not of much consequence. The Swan is, you know, the Duke’s House & our Witnesses will assemble there & I should say Mr Eagles may as well meet us at the Swan: our Witnesses are Fisher, Davis, Tween & Austen, the latter will prove the inaccuracy of Evans’ Work, in examining the Court Rolls the other day at a Court at Ampthill we found the Chap had actually had the Impudence to erase & fill up sentences in the Rolls without saying a Word to Davis & this alteration is decidedly wrong. I am sorry to say that Sharman is, at this time, confined to the House, with a Bilious Fever but I hope not so ill as to keep him from Business for any length of time. I suppose you will wish to see some or all of the Evidence before you are able to complete your Case”. “PS The piece of land I mentioned turns out to be almost wholly Copyhold instead of Freehold as I was led to suppose, consequently I declined off”.
