All well at Saltram. 19 October 1775 Details of journey, via Falmouth, boarding Packet 'Duke of York', wager with Mr. Parker over timing. Payment to Mr. Giles for Chaise £125. Manchester Velvet lining £9 15.0 etc... £5. 6 for trunks etc. Arrangements for drawing money at Lisbon. Convenient to draw upon Grantham or Joyes at Madrid. Put Mr. P.[Pelham] in Waddilove's room at Madrid. Lisbon 28 October. Safely ensconced with baggage at Inn. Thanks to Grantham for arrangements. Juan del Rios a very acceptable visitor there. Dined at St. Jn. Horts with Count Fontana. Finishing letter to give it to Mr. Walpole at Church tomorrow. Plans for visits to Bull Feast, Kings Opera and Cintra. Fix Mr. B. Cossets time exactly with theirs & they may probably set out for L'Escurial on Tuesday etc... Route planned. Sorry Munro mends so slowly. Half packed case of sundries to be sent from Whitehall to Madrid. Gratitude for Grantham’s kindness supplying “two good and too a good houses for a Country Parson”. Reference to future plans in Newby neighbourhood. Sir J. Ht.[Hort] wishes to send a Cask of Arrack. Difficult to arrange transport. The Archbishop’s son Dick Peter (Drummond?) is settled with Miss Mills/Milnes? of Wakefield. £1200 a year to live on. Mr. Drummond at or near Orleans. Miss Robinson said he wished to visit Madrid. "Best accounts of a very fine & sweet tempered Boy [at Saltram] - Nurses account of Miss is of more Consequence" [niece and nephew Parker]. Mentioned Mr. Baynes to Mr. Walpole. Has letter from Mr. Ellis, Friend, Mrs. Stainforth. Latter said to relay the King's words that "Mr. P could not be in a better School". P.S. Hopes Mr. Robinson has half a Lottery Ticket for him. Mr. Eden said he would send a letter for Mr. R. Perhaps Mr. Sneyd has dealt with it. A Portuguese Bull Feast is "a most wretched performance".
