Nothing taken yet from Mr. Motteux but has advanced £15-20. Subscribed £1.1.0. at Dr. Porteus' request, for an edition of Dr. Beattie. The Batt's have taken quiet possession of Newby. Lawn brown due to lack of rain. No hay to make at Topcliffe Fair. Mr. Graves desires his duty to Grantham. Has given him £17 for a mare. Mr. Weddel sends compliments etc.. "no appearance there of anything to hinder union of Swale & Ure". Saw Friend in London, no news of what Grantham inquired about [not specified] Has been asked what Spaniards use instead of Runnet.
