  • Scope and Content
Has two receipts from Captain Butler, unnecessary to send as goods should have arrived. Should be a barrel of porter on board too. Mr. Hucks said it should be the best sort. Two north Wiltshire cheeses just given by Browne could add to it's relish next Winter. Seeing Draper tomorrow about newspapers. Sometimes questions them, other times ignores them. Great & small Tythes situation. Mr. Mason suggested Waddilove may get something better than Topcliffe. Will not accept any change of Livings. In the face of this the Dean may expose himself more. Canteens serviceable on road, Mr. Robinson should not be without one on his intended Tour. Mrs. John Parker [Theresa, Grantham's sister] sends a kiss to Madrid. Mr. Parker much better. Archbishop very well at Bradsworth/Brodsworth?, busy building new rooms & new south front. Hope his two butts of old Malaga Mountain is ordered to Mr. A. Hankell, merchant in London. Count Massin's box finished. Count Fontana remembers Waddilove at Lisbon. Body of Post Chaise ready, will choose lining & paintings if he doesn't hear soon. Naples bill at Wedgewood's is £11.4.6., the Nuncio's £11.3.0., Grantham, Mr. Robinson or Count Massin £4 18.6., viz the Etruscan Canopus £1.16.0., Sir W.H. £1. 1.0. (thought it was only 10/6 or wouldn't have bought it). Coffee cups, 15, with green feather edge & purple flower, cream jug and sugar dish £1.3.6. Fifteen handd. [handled?] Tea cups, blue antique, with cream jug or sugar basin 0.18.0. Ornamental prevails rather than useful at present. Bracelets £2.2.0. and Onyx 0.2.6. Hope books from Bilbao arrive soon, Mr. D. to take care of them to Whitehall. If any bill paid to Mrs. Brodeirs after Gun Barrels arrive, would rather be in Grantham's debt than hers.
