  • Scope and Content
Translation: My Lord, Each year we have the honour of sending your provision of oil, with my associate the late Monsieur Mareschal whom I had the misfortune to lose last year, universally lamented by all who knew him. As it is at this time that I make my arrangements for obtaining the best provision of oil and other commodities of this region, having succeeded to our business I believed that I should take the liberty of offering you the continuation of my service. If Your Excellency has need of oil and other provisions for next year, I beg that he will honour me with his orders as early as possible, I dare to assure My Lord that I will execute them with all the care of which I am capable and that I will neglect nothing in order to send all that is of the most excellent and of sound quality, desiring nothing other than to be able to merit Your Excellency’s confidence. The oil harvest will not be as abundant as last year but will be of very good quality. I have the honour to be with the deepest respect My Lord, Your very humble and obedient servant, Vial. [On wrapper in English: Ordering: one barrel of Oil, 4 bottles of Olives & 2 of Anchovies. The whole to be directed to Mr Wilkie at Alicante].
