Discussion regarding negotiations with the French & Dutch about an unspecified Island. Grantham has sent letters about previous Cabinet negotiations, involving Loulé at Paris and Creihton, Symond, Hankey, Walpole and de Castries. Also Lord Sackville to Mr. Walpole. Conditions of trade on Island which is not so much a colony as a "convenient entrepot to satisfy enemies and rebels". Thought a firm direction had been taken but having read letters realises this is not the case. Loulé, Walpole, Sackville, Sir Charles Bunbury, Mr. Fox and de Castries involved. Draws attention to an Article involving indemnification of the French and their Agents. Walpole, Fox and Townshend involved. Issue seems to have remained under consideration ever since. Apologises for scrawl. Advises negotiating for giving a 'mere favour' as distinguished from a right, to favour them. Make sure the favour does not afford the building of other claims upon it.
