Scope and Content
The history of the properties can be briefly summarised as follows:
20 January 1890 Beatrice Susan Audley Harvey mortgaged to Robert Henry and Charles Samuel Lindsell, for £5,911, 5 cottages at Upper Caldecote (1 acre 2 rods 4 poles)
various transfers of this mortgage took place
In 1896 Francis Noel Butler, St Neots, Huntingdonshire, gentleman and Edward Geoffrey St Aubyn, 1 Devonshire Terrace, a Colonel in HM Army had entered into possession of the property
20 November 1917 F N Butler and E G St Aubyn sold the cottages to Harry Howitt Marshall, Upper Caldecote, and Lansbury Edward Marsters, of Sandy, produce merchants and growers of Biggleswade, for £140 (mortgage presumalbyn still owing), to hold as joint tenants as part of co-partnership.
H H Marshall died 9 January 1929
10 October 1930 Masters, and Marshall's executors, sold to William Woodward, Upper Caldecote, market gardener, the above five cottages, for £405
20 June 1944 Willliam Woodward sold the cottages now numbered as 11, 13, 15, 17 and 19 Biggleswade Road, to Ethel Bilcock for £320
1 June 1960 Ethel Maud Bilcock, 15 Biggleswade Road, Upper Caldecote, mortgaged said cottages to the Sandy and District Permanent Benefit Building Society, to secure a mortgage of the same date of The Bungalow, on plot 33 of Potton Road Estate, Biggleswade, of £2100. 11 and 11a Sun Street also used as security.
4 July 1969 Ethel Maud Day, the wife of Lesley Day (formerly E M Bilcock) sold to Eric Joseph Bonfield and Irene Elizabeth Bonfield (as trustees) the said 5 cottages for £3000. A right of way for the vendor to adjacent property retained. Trust to last until 21 years after death of last survivor of Eric and Irene.
4 July 1969 Sandy Building Society agrees to release the 5 cottages from being security for the collateral mortage
4 July 1969 E M Day lent EJ and IE Bonfield £1500 at 9% interest secured on siad 5 cottages (repaid 5 September 1972)
30 September 1971 Barclays Bank (as mortgagee) surrenders a peice of land in Upper Caldecote [adjoining the Royal Oak] to EJ and IE Bonfield
30 September 1971 The executors of Eliza Ethel Bygraves and the Bonfields affected an exchange of property. The Bonfields acquired land where 1,2,5,7 and 9 Biggleswade Road formerly stood and the executors received the site of 13,15,17 and 19 Biggleswade Road, and garage
21 June 1974 Bearton Properties sold 13 Oak Crescent to PR and P Swabey, for £6,750
12 May 1977 Property sold to Marion Jane Wright for £7,800
12 November 1981 Sold to S G Sole and Miss J L Rayner (as trustees for themselves) for £19,700 (the couple were married on 6 August 1983)
23 November 1984 Sold to D R Nixon for £26,400
6 February 1985 Sold to Roger Everitt £29,400
