Wishes Grantham luck at Boroughbridge [races?]. Waddilove says Grantham not eligible for Trusteeship. Dined at Lady Robinson's with Mr. & Mrs. H. Pelham, Mrs. Munster, Colonel Heathcote & Nanny. Played Whist, Mrs. Arthington, Mrs. Garforth & Miss Dalton came. Latter set off early for Yorkshire this morning, mortified at not being allowed to wait for her sister's return. Drinking tea with Mrs. Arthington this evening. Gave Mr. Sneyd Lord Chesterfield's Warrants to negotiate with Mr. Ely. Thinks Grantham will not be a gainer by the substituted Duty on windows as there are a great many in both Houses. Doesn't know that there is a great consumption of tea in the family. Lord Boringdon will suffer as Plymouth Tea very cheap & Saltram House very light. Riding between showers. Ordered Mr. Underwood's bill. Summoned Mr. Genn to deal with leaks in Mrs. Mercer's and La Pierre's rooms. Mrs. Allanson not well, setting out for Yorkshire next week. Miss Saunders to marry Mr. Whisk of the Excise. Mrs. Hardinge invited Fritz to visit them at Ragman's[?] Castle. House of Commons; taking Mr. Ley if House up in time. Budget next week and East India business. Can face constituents so long as he has attended these. Met Charles York riding. Too fast to stop but seemed well.
