    Newspaper report referring to Grantham's leaving London with his suite for Beverley Castle in Yorkshire. Dined at Sackville Street, went to Opera with Jack & Theresa [Parker], saw `the Deserter' again. Dined at Stratton Street, family party but Tom & Harry not at home. Attending Mr. Bailes[?] motion in House of Commons. Prince of Wales; Lord Pelham heard that he has hired a house at Brightshelmstone for six weeks. May visit Stanmer, if impressed may wish they had never seen inside o Carlton House. Lord Boringdon graciously received there. Mr. Cholmley has bought Mr. Smelt's house, which he built, near Kirby Fletham. He paid £9000, will allow Mr. Smelt to carry on using it, settling afterwards on Mrs. Cholmley. Some bills have been sent it. Black Box is gone to the Waggon. Aunt dines tomorrow at Pelham's. Pelhams to Stanmer this week. Jem's watch chain, hope he liked it. Fritz paid five pounds thirteen shillings for his own and sold his remnants of gold & silver for three pounds & fifteen shillings. Met Sir B. Graham at Lord Boringdon's. Mentioned vacant Trusteeship. Grantham suggested as properest person for vacancy by Mr. Laurence at last Election.
