Tom [Pelham]still confined by knee. Lord Pelham singularly fortunate in irregular & unsuspected acquisitions of fortune, income increased but thought not to be the richer for it etc.... Saw Frascatana at Opera, not so well performed as it used to be by Morelli. Met Storer, looking older. Saw Eden, has acquired a foreign air, grown dark & thin. Thinks he will not return to the Secretary of State's Office. Carlisle is at Castle Howard which has been damaged considerably by high winds. If storm had affected Newby thinks Ellis would have written to Draper. Former has informed Lady Robinson of damage to her houses, estates & church at Strensall. Lady Robinson's sister Hardinge is irrecoverably ill. Attended Levee on Wednesday, and yesterday was [with] her Ladyship at trhe Drawing Room. Lady Litchfield's death prevented finery, but the novice/novia[?] was well dressed etc... Thinks the Queen cannot come out again. The Lady's heads are lower than last winter. Not many people in town, several at Portsmouth. All reasonable people disapprove of those who have gone there as supporters of Admiral Keppel, prejudging his cause etc... Lord Middleton's eagerness & warmth in politics give uneasiness to his new connections. Describes new flat frame and travelling case for Grantham's picture. Has bought a pretty shewy cheap steel sword for the Birthday. Cost six & half guineas. Dines with Lord Weymouth that day. The Almodobars intend to give dinner on Thursdays, also have been to Bath for amusement, so now Grantham may go to the Aquas del Toro. The Senor Maria's still in England but are returning to Spain immediately. Horses not yet arrived in town. Chico will stand at a Stable in King St. Made unexpected visit to Shadwell, looks thin, sleeps out of town for benefit of air. Impatient for children etc... to come from Saltram. Nanny's chair is neat & comfortable & will cost 11 guineas. Miss Pelham & Miss Mary send compliments, visited Stratton St. last night. Played at Whist with Mr. Nesbitt. Mr. Kerr also visited. Resembles Fritz's friend Mr. Barnet, must seek him out at Crutched Friars. Lady Carmarthen living at Chislehurst with Mr. Byron. She acquires a large fortune when divorced so he'll probably marry her. Rumoured that Duke of Dorset to marry Miss Cumberland etc... The Buccleugh's not in town this year. All his Spanish clothes too tight, the Astracan made after illness most so, but can be altered. Mr. Burrell is to marry Lady Priscilla Berlie. Lord Duncannon just returned from abroad. Fritz's feet stronger & freer from pain than for sometime. Frost over now. Has walked out to acquire news for this letter but met no one. Dining again at Stratton St.., room cold & cook not very good. Saw Storer wants to see Grantham's prints. Glad to hear of the Sallust for him. Has received £75 from Draper down to last Christmas.
