- Scope and ContentHeard via Nanny's letter an account of Grantham's progress in health. Plays Billiards with Dal, he always wins. Describes Mr. Anscott, resemblance to Uncle Fred etc..., marriage a faux pas. As Mrs. Anscott "has sense enough not to talk much, nobody would find out that she had been raised from so low a rank in life". Death of Colonel Ackland "almost unlamented". Ill ever since his return from America where he was severely wounded. Excessive eating, drinking & smoking prevented recovery. Son inherits. Colonel Ackland MP for Callington. Borough in the disposal of friend of Mr. Parker, offered to latter for his brother. Fritz declined. Scandal in papers about Lord L. [Lyttleton] & Mrs. North. [Untrue, see L 30/14/333/147]. Little children well, will miss them much at his Toilet in London. Has acquired taste for Laver. Mr. Palker always make a present of it for Lady Catherine. Lord Lincoln a worthy young man, also Townshend & Lord John, but Lord Thomas is very bad.
