  • Scope and Content
Update on post received. Some may be lost, read in papers of the Packet Boat the `Duke of York's, Captain Dashwood, was taken on 17 Inst. by a French Privateer, not sure if bound to or from Lisbon. Comments generally on situation of the times, still cannot answer Grantham's references to the state of public affairs. Thanks for continuance of abstracts. Low opinion of the St. Ildephonso Tertullias, reference to those at Aranjuez of the Arniros Miguel eti etc... Glad of Grantham's approval relating to their schemes, execution of them constantly on his mind. Sorry that Fernan Nunez is likely to leave Grantham so soon. Accounts of Princess very bad, not likely to resist many more attacks. `Rattlesnake', a Cutter from Admiral Keppel's Fleet, arrived at Falmouth on Tuesday last and came into the Sound yesterday; brought word that our Fleet had not yet met with French. Encloses an account [not present] to last Midsummer, asks for similar one to be returned. Fritz will make Draper pay him one quarter of his Annuity at Michaelmas. The Bullers and Miss Poole, dined and laid there. Sir William and Lady Leman went away. Yesterday Mr. Parker invited all his Corps of Officers. Mr. Parker returning the civility at the Mess today. Nanny & children send their love.
