L 30/14/333/128 - part of L 30/14/333/129]. Mr. & Mrs. T Pitt visited Mount Edgecumbe, going abroad to aid Mr. Pitt's very poor health. Mr. Edgecumbe is at Harrow, Mr. Parker may send the nephew there when eight. Lady Edgecumbe not altered, very polite and gave a good dinner. Walked, rowed, returned home. Rode to Camp, Colonel Ogilvie, Mr. Mayo & Dal[?] dined. In the evening had a party at whist. Dined with General Parker at the Citadel. Sixteen at table including the little boy who dined in public for the second time. Lady Macclesfield enquired after Count Gazola having had no reply to her letter a while ago. Glad he liked the steel sword she had sent. Sir Stanier Porten never received his snuff, entrusted to M D'Ossuna's servants on leaving Spain. Hopes it was not delivered to their old Chevalier de Champagne. Weather similar to that experienced at St. Ildephonso. Suits Fritz. No weakness in knees etc... Lord & Lady Macclesfield, Lady Mary Parker, the General & his two Aids de Campe walked to Ken Quarry thence to Burrington, Farm marshes, kitchen garden etc... Mr. Munning visited, describes him. Not at all like Grantham. Mr. Nepaine, Lord Shuldham's secretary resembles Grantham and Barrientos. Went to Camp with Nanny at 6.30 am. Regiments reviewed and performed sham fight. Breakfasted at Mr. Parker's tent. Visited Mr. & Mrs. Musters. Latter "one of the prettyest I ever saw". Mr. Radcliffe has dined several times. Complaining less of his health than formerly. The little boy missed visit to Camp "does not betray the least military disposition". Will see little girl after dinner. Mr. Montague & Mr. Parker not on visiting terms. Confidently reported that Mr. J Bastard is to marry Miss Elways, won her round eventually". [Not true, see L30/14/333/130]. Mr. Smelt returned to Court, not sure if he resumes former situation or takes younger Princes. "I am happy that that Castle was never inhabited". Glad the desert is safely in Madrid. Will send more buckles after success of other pair. Keep clean with soap suds. Compliments to Don [Dr?] Antonio de Ulloa, "there are perhaps people in this country who wish that he had paid us a second visit". Will distribute etchings according to Grantham's directions. Copy of reply to Shadwell's letter attached [not present]. [Response to L30/14/333/127].
