The D'oyleys dined, all formal dining visits. Lord Pelham does not seem to be on a comfortable footing with any neighbours. Went to course at Lewes with Harry to see horses entered for running. Met Tom and "most of quality of the place". Brought Tom over for dinner. 27 July 1778. [Later]Arrived Whitehall at 3 pm. No news from Town. Uneventful journey, [lists places]. Grantham's chaise unfit for any more travel in Spain will try to sell. Good weather broken. Letter from Eden, arrived in Philadephia on 6th then off to New York. Decoded message, "Eden says I wish I could see more likelihood of this country becoming once more a part of the British Empire..." Wishes Grantham would acknowledge in letters through France the receipt of Fritz’s. 27 July 1778.
