Arrived safely. Family well. Tom dines at Lewes with all the Clergy at a visitation of the Archdeacon. Usual Stanmer routine detailed; Tea at Sabina's tomb etc.... Monumental Urn, made by Heyward, put up by Lord & Lady Pelham in wood in memory of Uncle Fred, described. Garden seat placed opposite old Library windows. Great want of rain. Travelled down in Post Chaise "obliged to have four horses all the way, the solidity of the wheels exciting universall admiration...". Will travel to Devonshire in Nanny's chaise. Fanny looking better but still pale. Harry has headquarters here, occasionally goes to Lewes to look after men. Tom may be sent to Plymouth. Younger part of family grow: work too much, should take exercise suited to their age etc... Regrets being away from London and possibility of progress "with our projects". Mr. Offley expected at Stanmer soon. Exclusion of Brighthelmstone kept up but some exceptions etc... Road shut out by enclosure & removal of lodges. Lady Pelham regretful as objects on it are a matter of conversation. Would Grantham like one sheet twice a week or two once, from Saltram.
