    Grantham's letters arriving safely, the length of them makes Fritz ashamed. Disappointment about horses, has passed letter on to Uncle Worsley. Possibility that horses stolen. Dined at the St. Albans' with Smyth, Arden, Graham & Phipps, all Trinity men. First visit to Tavern since his return from Spain. Dined next day with Tom Pelham, Mr. Walpole, Mr. Fortescue, Mr. Luttrell of Dunster Castle, Mr. Popham and Mr. Parker. Dined at Weltje's a confectioner in St. James' Street, good cook. Foreigners have their club at his house etc... Meal cost £1 8s 6d. each. Supped at Burton's Chambers in Lincoln's Inn, he is King’s Council. King's Levee next day, the King enquired about Fritz's correspondence with Grantham. Approved of frequency. Drawing Room not very full or very fine for a Birthday, "few cloathes handsomer or prettyer than my green Poplin which was much admired..." Women mainly in plain silks with gauze trimmings & rouge in small quantities. Describes the King's four eldest sons; Prince of Wales inclined to be fat etc... all have "great deal of hair & are not ill dress'd...". Rest of children not visible until after Drawing Room. Difficult journey away due to heavy storm. Described foreigners present; Sardinia, Naples, Venice. D'Ageno and Escarano also present. Lord Weymouth also present in his blue ribbon, Lord Mansfield, Lord Stormont, Sir William Lynch, Mr. Fullaston, Sir Stanier Porten and Mr. Chamier. Unable to speak to Lord Weymouth one to one, very unhappy at inability to write to Grantham something decisive, direct application improper. Attended concert at Lady Pembroke’s; good deal of company. Lady Payne enquiring after Grantham. Richard grown thin in America, what he has lost Charles has got. Lady Holland in a very bad way. Concludes as expected at Levee. Sending single sheets through France, larger packets through Lisbon.
