  • Production date
    From: 1778 To: 1778
  • Scope and Content
Lengthy discussion of what circumstances Grantham might leave Spain under to return home. Dependent largely on war situation. Doesn't seem to be anybody to succeed either Grantham or Fritz except perhaps Sir William Hamilton. 18 May 1778. Joins most heartily with Grantham's wish "that you may not restore your pictures to your places...dread your thinking that I am remiss on that subject." Didn't like news of Grantham's persistent headache after his cold, insists he asks for leave of absence if he continues feeling ill. Everyone thinks Fritz looks better since his return. Draper "croaks cruelly" on public affairs, but contented with their private ones etc. Gives reason for formerly recommending that Grantham has only one Creditor in Spain. Quotes example of Lord Stormont in Paris, detained by private affairs longer than he ought to have been. Great satisfaction about horses from Aranjuez, thought cheap. 19 May 1778
