  • Scope and Content
Glad Grantham intends to write regularly. Correspondence must be restrained in ordinary post. Send best compliments to Sobral. Hasn't been guilty of any excess. Mr. Parker's cook excellent. Drawing room on Sunday, received by the Queen, the King being at Chatham. Details of conversation, Prince and Princess Dowager of Masserano mentioned etc... With Tom Pelham to Lady Harrington’s, not much company. Saw Smyth of Heath, said to be married to Lady Georgiana Fitzroy. Duke doesn't approve. Lost money gaming at Lady Katherine’s. Lady Pembroke handsomer than ever. Lord Robert thought to be in Portsmouth to see the Fleet. Charles Fox grown fat. Hasn't been beyond Stratton St... New buildings said to be good. Mr. Parker must go to Devonshire on account of the Militia. Cannot be at Saltram much for the summer. Mr. & Mrs. Aislabie very infirm and weak on their legs. Spending much money at Hendon. Lady Robinson at Bath. Tom Pelham taken Captain's Commission in Sussex Militia "universally well spoken off..." Couldn't get anything at Paris as a joint present for Nanny. Suggests a new Sedan chair. Reminder about Vicuna cloth; colours required and for whom discussed. Children well [nephew & niece John Parker junior & Therese]. Exhibition opened but hasn't visited during the good hours for viewing. Not many good pictures. Duke of Marlborough's family by Reynolds the finest there, perhaps his best ever. Doesn't like his "frescoish" colouring. Dines with him today in Sackville St. Dr. Warren engaged, will contact him again soon. Has paid an old reckoning to Mr. Tynmore for Grantham, for the last time they were at Tuesday club. Members of latter all over world now; Storer is gone merely as the Fidus Achates', Elliott in India, Wilbraham in town. Asks Grantham to say whether he writes too much or too little. Describes his current daily routine. Ranelagh open but not yet the fashion. George Selwin left England for Italy to see "Taynaris [?] little girl, que locura?" Dines with Pelhams etc... "Will not give our friends the French the trouble of reading another sheet..."
