Better report of father therefore will not leave early. Edgecumbes dined and lay there Tuesday, wind rose preventing their leaving. Reynolds returned from Torrington. Commodore Spry and Mr. Dunning to dinner, latter "a Gigg to be sure but very agreeable, more business pursues him by one Post than I shall overtake in a year or two". "Mad letter [of] Lord Pomfret's I think he and Simon Botterwicke must meet in Sowerby field". Lawyer's Badcliffe and Copp there for some days. Therese baths thrice weekly, less exercise than last year. Reynolds at Plymton, freeman of Borough, Mayor's Day, "he is bigotted to the place of his nativity which many a man in his circumstances would choose to forget, but he on the contrary goes about to all the old weeding women & asks if they remember his Father and if he stays long he will be ruin'd in sixpences to them and their children".
