  • Scope and Content
Sorry Lord Pelham likely to lose "so good & useful a friend as poor Mr. Bland". Wishes he could recommend a successor; Waddilove better than anybody but wouldn't quit Whilby. Pity Van [?] Scraper doesn't speak English or if Storer would go into orders "you might save a cream[?] pot" Rode to Burrington with Mr. Parker, fine situation, more magnificent [than Saltram] but not so comfortable. Sir Thomas Ackland [of Killerton Park, near Exeter] has visited; a "gentlemanlike hearty man", he is sorry you didn't see stag round[?]. Company expected next week "which...we had all rather be without". Mrs. Carpenter drank tea last night. Comments on fish; 2 Dory's, 2 Pipers, 2 plaice, Grey Mulletts etc... Cockle sauce & clouted cream are very good. Has not been up hill "where your castle is to be yet, Mr. Parker says he certainly will build". Richmond expected next week "the new entrance will be the most striking". Nanny looks well but no fatter "neither is Therese such a size as I expected... & (what I am very angry at) much younger than she did". Does not like the account of father, if he takes entirely to his bed will have to get a nurse to relieve the servants. Will return immediately if father wishes him to. Petition goes slowly in this part of country.
